Jack Manly and Beth Bruiser have each come to the heartbreaking realization that they have absolutely nothing keeping them in a committed relationship. That is, other than their survival of an assault by the unholy creations of Jack’s arch-nemesis and possible brother; Lord Arnheim ‘Destruction’ Maximillian.
A year had passed since the couple’s filmed foray into their enemy’s lair where they were forced to do battle with Maximillian’s concoctions. These were actual Nazis that had been raised from the dead and then given robotic parts in place of limbs that were deemed to have decayed beyond feasible use. It looked touch and go for about 100 to 112 minutes of adrenaline pumping action and at around the one hour sixteen minute mark of their adventure, it did indeed look as though all hope was lost. But just before complete annihilation was assured, Jack had a black and white flashback to something seemingly unimportant Beth had told him when they first met, and used whatever the hell it was to save the day.
Maximillian’s plan – which was to save humanity by destroying humanity through a convoluted means – was foiled.
But a year on after meeting under such strenuous circumstances, neither Jack nor Beth seem to enjoy each other’s company. They’ve tried everything, from pottery classes to Zumba, mixed martial arts, fish rearing, but alas they appear to have no common interests.
Even general conversation is a chore for the two of them. Jack constantly shouts catchphrases that have no bearing on their current lives while Beth rolls her eyes in an “Oh, you” fashion. In the entire year the only pertinent information learnt by either of them of each other is that Jack once punched a great white shark out of the water, and that Beth had done the same to a hammerhead shark.
It remains to be seen whether Jack and Beth will stay together or not, but it is quite clear that meeting someone in excruciatingly unique circumstances does not guarantee a perfect match.
