“I would rather be scalded in the molten carcass of our civilization than watch another video explaining this nonsense ever again.”
That was the sentiment expressed by a local fitness trainer and self-proclaimed ‘regular dude’. He had recently found himself in hot water over comments that were perceived by many to be in support of eco-fascism, having claimed that the world was better off nuked to smithereens. In recent times it has become a trope in action cinema to have a villain that intends on destroying the world in order to save the world. When he had made his statement, it was thought that he was merely aping the on-screen antagonists, leaving many in his area aghast at his trite stance. He would go on to clarify that he did not intend on improving society and was making no destructive plans himself, but simply said he would not oppose any form of nuclear warfare that would wipe him and everyone else out. So long as he doesn’t have to try to understand Bitcoin.
As we all know (after many a google search), cryptocurrency is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange wherein individual coin ownership is…. Followed by a link prompting us to ‘Read More’. Unfortunately for many, that is as far as our collective common knowledge on the matter goes. How does it work, why does it work, what is the final goal of this system, will my coworker ask for my thoughts on all this? As it stands, for many these are all mysteries likely to never be solved.
It’s been a concept lurking under the surface of common conversation for about a decade now. Before it could be dismissed as dork fodder. There was no need to discuss the likes of bitcoin, nobody cared about it. Now it appears inescapable. As if these intangible concepts wrapped themselves around one person’s amygdala before hopping onto its next host and so on till it became necessary knowledge.
But for this one man there is a spark of hope. A combination of different forms of global devastation could keep these annoying thoughts at bay. A hypothesis he presented involves all the global superpowers realizing that there is no chance in hell of avoiding the consequences of climate change, the pandemic, international conflict, etc. Upon doing so they conclude that the only way forward is to nuke the planet and start over. Essentially, the action movie villain plan. But not carried out by him. He’s not that narcissistic. He just wants the world to end so he doesn’t have to make a slight change to his life. He went on to complain further.
“They keep making new things! And I haven’t even finished learning about the existing things! There are too many things!”
