He may have gutted unsuspecting people and pickled their livers, but the real villain in this story is the angry mob who wants him imprisoned just for practising his beliefs. So much for tolerance. There was a time when people respected each other’s points of view. Two people can sit together and peacefully express their murderous intentions without fear of retribution. Now, the second you express and subsequently act upon your beliefs, you are persecuted!
Who are we to judge the actions of other people? Yes, they may harm people but is it anyone else’s business? The people affected aren’t in a position to make a fuss anyway. They’ve already been digested. Yet, we still punish consumers for what they think and do. Why must there always be consequences for one’s heinous behaviour? What happened to freedom? A question thus arises. Is the legal system the most prominent form of cancel culture in the world? We asked one scholar who said, ‘what…no.’
That’s right. Even academics are puzzled by this bizarre situation.
Many have already claimed to have been cancelled for their views but this usually just entails losing one’s status as a public figure of adoration. In the good old days, certain people of certain backgrounds could go about their day ruining other people’s lives. In this day and age, you have to do silly things like ‘respect’ others. If not, then they face the horrors of people saying mean things about them. This is of course child’s play when compared to going to actual prison for cannibalism.
In this day and age, you can not even be your horrific self. Society forces you to pretend you are something you are not. Like, not a cannibal. Else you could see yourself losing your job, your reputation, and your long-standing status as a non-felon.
