Poorly timed thunder really making this romantic proposal very creepy.

The forces of nature have conspired to turn a wonderful weekend getaway-proposal into an ominous nightmare. Hans and Sylvie had traveled to an idyllic countryside straight out of a Windows XP desktop, where Hans planned on popping the question. To be specific, the question of asking for her hand in marriage. To be even more specific, marriage to him. Her hand to hold his. Hans. Hans’ hand.

But to his chagrin, rain clouds were quick to unexpectedly gather over the wonderful overlook to dampen everyone involveds’ spirits, leading Hans to later curse at the weather app that sold him false promises. Truly a travesty.

He had planned this event months in advance. He would lead her out from their room down a long uncovered path to a very decked-out gazebo where he’d make the proposal. But with the skies overcast it seemed he would have to speed up this special moment.

They made it to the gazebo, drenched, after their shared umbrella had turned itself inside out, possibly to object to their union. The wind billowed unromantically, blowing Sylvie’s hair into her own face.

But to top it all off, thunder seemed to crack at moments that made sweet gestures seem like ramblings from an obsessive fanatic keeping locks of their subject’s hair preserved in a secret lock-box under their bed.

He said to her, “I promise to be with you for the rest of our lives”, and that sounds lovely enough. But a crack of thunder both at the top and end of that sentence really gave off a sinister vibe. The phrase, “everything without you is meaningless,” in the right context – A okay. Go for it. However, secluded (not including a hidden cameraman he had hired to capture the moment), in a thunderstorm, it reeks of someone on the edge of sanity bellowing at a woman who may or may not know who this man is.

Though she did agree to marry him, to onlookers – had there been any – it may have appeared as if she felt coerced into saying yes, given that she was alone with a seemingly crazed and very wet man shouting stalker-y things at her.

The couple will now spend time together, editing footage of their proposal in an attempt to digitally insert some romance.
