We spent twenty trillion dollars to laser the word ‘Hope’ onto the moon to lift everyone’s spirits!!! (Now we’ve got nothing left to actually deal with poverty and hunger but how cool is that moon thing, am I right?)

Oh you’re hungry? Stop complaining, you’re getting a defaced moon to look at!

These are heavy times. Struggle is synonymous with existence and those who have less have suffered, often times through no fault of their own. For many, this year has seen a consistent reevaluation of priorities.

What people need most right now is tangible change. The powers that be must pool their resources together and work towards quantifiable upliftment. However, that seems quite difficult and a bit boring so we’ll have to settle for empty platitudes and symbolism.

Oh you’re starving to death? Don’t fret so much, you’re getting a defaced moon.

Every nation on the planet has paid a combined total of 20 trillion dollars in order to create a super powerful laser beam that will be used to write a message on the moon for a struggling populace. Hope. That is what people need right now. Again, maybe not ‘need’ per say but isn’t this way more interesting than actually doing any life-changing work?

Moral upliftment is a lot more fun to go about too. The department of meaningless gestures has devised this astounding method to grab the general public, alleviate their mental suffering and soothe their senses. A simple message of support that would go a long, long way. According to them at least. In reality this is completely pointless but at least they can say they did something and relax for the rest of the year.

When people look up at the sky and see the mutilated satellite orbiting our blue planet they can take comfort in the fact that their leaders care enough about them to perform this grand gesture. And those in charge can pat themselves on the back for doing nothing of real value but something very noticeable to placate the masses.

Also how cool is that? A giant laser beam?? Incredible! One really hopes they don’t one day decide to turn it on their people and laser the words “live laugh love” on us when we step out of line.
